Information about the photos, illustrations, and streaming media found on the Properties of Matter site.

It is important to understand a little about copyright before using any image, even for a school report. There are several ways to tell which images may be used for free. Images that were created by the United States government are in the public domain, which means that they may be used without copyright restrictions. The copyright on some images has expired, which also means that they are in the public domain and may be used without copyright restrictions. Other images were taken by individuals who wish to share their work; you may use any image in this list that has been identified as having been created by the NSRC. In all cases, you should credit the photographer or the organization that supplied the photograph. See Wikipedia's discussion of public domain for more on these issues.
